Another week, another round up. This week I'm starting to reassess how I handle these round up posts. So this week I'm going to fullfil my commitments to some of the carnivals that I participated in this week, but I'm also interested in your feedback in how you'd like me to proceed with the round ups in the future.
Well, after the success of last week's carnival, where I submitted my article on why I prefer small homes to large ones, I thought I'd try submitting to two carnivals this week.
The first was the Carnival of Personal Finance hosted by My Dollar Plan. This week I submitted my article highlighting a couple of ways to be frugal without depriving yourself of anything.
There were plenty of interesting articles submitted but the on that really caught my eye was Super Saver over at My Wealth Builder who shared some updates on how things are going after an early retirement. This is a nice example of following up on your goals to see how things are going after a bit of time has passed.
The other carnival that I participated in this week was the Carnival of Taxes hosted at Don't Mess With Taxes. I submitted an article that I wrote some time ago on the different tax treatment of various types of income.
One article I liked was by Alison over at Queer Cents who offers a simple organizational tip to help make tax time less of a hassle. Simple yet effective!
Last week I mentioned that I have been submitting to several carnivals in an effort to increase my readership. So far, this has been very successful. The success of my article last week doubled the number of subscribers to Plan Your Escape and pushed that article into the number one all time favourite position. So why am I having second thoughts?
Well, I typically use these round up posts as a way to link back to the carnivals that I participate in each week. That's how these carnivals work: in exchange for having your article linked to on the hosting blog, you include a link back to the host on your blog. My worry is that they don't really offer much value to you, my readers. I'm sure that many of you subscribe to several other blogs that routinely participate in all the same carnivals and I don't want to bore you all with weekly posts to these same carnivals. The round ups are also my least read articles in general. As a result, I've been thinking of cutting back on the carnival submissions and just focusing on writing some good quality articles. Instead of participating in carnivals every week I might try every other week or so. That way there won't be so many round up articles all the time.
What do you think? Do you enjoy the carnivals? Do you have any suggestions for how I could do them differently to make them more interesting? Should I stop worrying about it and keep doing what I've been doing? I'd love to have some feedback so I can help reach some balance.
