Friday Round Up: The 'Feels Like Spring' Edition

Peter's picture

We're only a week into spring and the pile of snow on our front lawn is slowly getting smaller. At this rate we should be able to see the grass sometime in July!

This week we participated in a carnival and offered some tips on how to shrink your home communication costs.

Carnival

This week's Carnival of Personal Finance was hosted by Million Dollar Journey. I submitted my article on using an asset swap to make your mortgage interest tax deductible which was highlighted as an "Editor's Pick."

There are lot's of great articles in this week's carnival but a couple that I enjoyed were:

  • Mr. Debtbeater's article on how to create an envelope budgeting system. I like how he stresses the importance of not trying to get your budget right the first time. You'll have to adjust things, so be prepared to make changes.
  • Seb's take on living off minimum wage. He concludes that it doesn't work and $14700 per year is too little. What do you think?

Attacking The Household Communication Bills

This week I posted a couple of articles on how we cut our household communication expenses - Cable TV, Phone and Internet - and started saving $83 each month. That ends up being just under $1000 per year!

Unlike last week, I somehow doubt that Cogeco will be featuring either of those articles in its newsletters anytime soon!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the nice spring weather!
